I’m Ruqaiya, a freelance social media producer, strategist and writer based in London.
Over the last decade I’ve worked across social strategy, branded campaigns and editorial content, as well as launching, growing and managing social media channels. I specialise in producing short-form video, from ideas and scripting to shooting, editing and presenting.
Most recently, I spent four years producing content for environmental organisation Parley for the Oceans, where I launched and grew its TikTok channel to more than 43,000 followers organically and created content spanning ocean conservation, marine science, environmental news, sustainability in fashion and global brand collaborations. The videos I produced for Parley generated more than 40 million organic views, with my most watched video hitting 19.7 million views!
My social media work has included campaigns and content for brands such as adidas and Dior, as well as NGOs and newsrooms. Alongside social strategy, account management and video production, my experience spans copywriting, interviewing, influencer outreach and data-led content optimisation.
Before moving into social media production, I started my career in journalism and have written for publications including Dazed, AnOther, Independent, Hyphen, The Guardian and gal-dem. I’ve covered underreported topics across culture, identity, faith and politics and have interviewed Oscar-nominated actors and Premier League footballers as well as artists and writers documenting South Asian, Arab and Muslim youth culture.
My editorial background still shapes how I approach social content today: finding the story, understanding the audience and turning complex subjects into content that people want to stop and engage with. I work with organisations, brands and agencies on social strategy, short-form video, creative development and content production.
